Council Vacancy
TAKE NOTICE that a vacancy exists on the Township of James Council for one (1) Councillor. Council has determined to fill this vacancy through a call for Nominations, in accordance with Section 262 of the Municipal Act, 2001, S.O. 2001, c. 25.
The Term of this position is from the date of Council appointment for the balance of the Council term until November 14, 2026.
A candidate for Municipal office must be a qualified municipal elector as set out in the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, and fulfill all of the following requirements:
· Resides in or be the owner or tenant of land in Township of James, or the spouse of such owner or tenant;
· Is a Canadian citizen;
· Is at least 18 years old; and,
· Is not prohibited from voting under Section 17(3) of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 or otherwise by law.
Appointment Application Process
Any interested eligible individuals looking to apply must complete and submit the following documentation (packages (Linked below to print off) can be picked up at the Municipal Office on 33 Third Street or emailed at your request)
- Nomination Paper – Form 1
- Endorsement of Nomination - Form 2 (20 signatures)
- Declaration of Qualifications Municipal Candidates Form
- Consent to Release Personal Information Form
- Personal Statement of Qualification
- Letter size paper (8 ½” x 11”)
- Does not exceed 1 pages in length (single-sided only)
- Applicants name and address
Applications can be dropped off at The Township of James, 33 third Street, Elk Lake, beginning on Friday, June 12th at 12:00 p.m., until Friday, June 19th at 3:00 p.m.
Important dates:
- Application/ Nomination Period Opens – Friday, June 12th, at 9:00 a.m.
- Application/ Nomination Period Closes – Friday, June 19th, at 3:00 p.m.
- Deadline to Withdraw Application/ Nomination Friday, June 19th at 3 :00 p.m.
- Official List of Candidates to be posted on the Township’s website – Tuesday, June 23rd, by 4:00 p.m.
- Council Appointment Meeting: Wednesday, July 8th, 2026
The new Councillor will be appointed by By-law and sworn in at a Meeting of Council. The newly appointed Councillor will assume their seat at the July 8th Meeting.
